Ghostly Encounter
It is claimed that this ancient hillfort was the site of 'Mons Badon,' the great battle in which the legendary King Arthur claimed victory over the Anglo Saxons in 518A.D, and where he killed at least a hundred and sixty men single handed. It is rumoured that at midnight King Arthur and his spectral knights return to haunt the battlefield.
In 1970, an organised archaeological expedition of students, camped within the Rings, experienced a legend turn into reality. One night the students were abruptly awoken by the sounds of marching and clashing metal accompanied by shouts of military orders in a language they did not recognise. In blind panic they quickly abandoned their camp. The terrors at Badbury Rings continued towards the end of the 1970's, with particular reports of a strange ghostly warrior with a hideous scared face haunting the area at night. He was last seen in 1977.
